3 Tips To Make Your Car Registration Renewal Easier

by Katrina Morgan

Renewing your car's registration is important, but that doesn't mean that it's not a pain. If you'd like to cut out some of the time and aggravation that goes along with it, however, consider these tips.

1. Get Proof of Insurance

In many cases, you are required to submit proof of your car insurance when renewing your registration. You don't want to wait until you're filling out the online form or standing in line at the DMV before you realize this, so it's a good idea to go ahead and get this information beforehand. Bringing in a copy of your policy should suffice, if you happen to have it on hand. If you have online access to your car insurance, you should also be able to print out proof of insurance off of the website. Otherwise, you can call your agent and ask to have a copy mailed or faxed to you, or you can drop into your local office to get proof of insurance.

2. Use a Renewal Service

There are services out there that are actually designed to help people renew their registrations. Even though you might have to pay a convenience fee for this service, you may find that it's worth it when you don't have to worry about doing it yourself.

3. Opt for a Longer Registration Period

In many states, you can only register your vehicle for one year at a time. This can be a hassle, since it means that you have to go back and renew your car's registration every year. In some states, however, you may be able to qualify for a longer registration period. Even though you will generally have to pay the same amount in registration fees as you would pay if you went in each year, paying more at one time can be worth it when it means that you can skip having to deal with a registration renewal for an extra year.

Renewing your vehicle registration is an essential if you want to avoid getting a ticket. Even though it's a normal part of car ownership, it can be a bit of a hassle, particularly if you feel that you don't have a lot of extra time anyway. Luckily, following these tips can help you make the process easier and faster. Then, it will be less of a hassle, and you'll know that your car is registered as it should be.
